Udzungwa
Mountains is quite different to a lowland
national park, and as you would expect the
game viewing is quite different. The altitude
varies from 250m to 2500m with corresponding
habitats that contribute to the diversity.
Lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo, hippo and
sable antelope are present although unlikely
to be seen on your forest walk. The 'Sanje
Crested' Mangebey and the Hehe Red Colobus
are endemic to the area, also to be seen are
the Black and White Colobus , vervet and Blue
Sykes monkeys. The
most recently discovered bird species is the
Udzungwa partridge (1991) discovered when
scientists were invited to dinner by local
villagers! |
